GOOGLE SHOPPING CONSULTANT

Google Shopping Management & Merchant Center Optimisation

Make more of your products.
Start with free listings.

I help retailers get their product data in order, resolve listing problems and improve how shoppers find their range. Free listings, paid campaigns and AI-assisted discovery start with an offer customers can understand and buy.

No ad budget required for eligible free listings. I can help you assess the opportunity before deciding whether paid Shopping belongs in the plan.

FREE PRODUCT LISTINGS

Your next customer
does not always need
a paid click.

For an eligible ecommerce business, free listings are a practical way to open another route to the store. I check whether your range is ready, improve the information behind each priority item and look for the problems preventing useful exposure.

The opportunity is international, but the setup is market-specific. I start with countries you can serve reliably, then align the product language, currency, delivery and returns with those customers.

Google does not charge for the free placement or its clicks. My management fees are separate.

ONE PRODUCT FOUNDATION

Three connected routes.
Different jobs to do.

Google Merchant Center

Business settings, product sources, offer information and diagnostics.

MERCHANT CENTER MANAGEMENT

Make the account easier
to run, not just easier to open.

A connector can simplify uploading products. Someone still needs to own the settings, updates and exceptions. I set out what is managed, by whom and how issues are followed through.

01

Account & access

Review business information, website verification, ownership, permissions and relevant account connections.

02

Product sources

Choose the appropriate platform connection, scheduled source or integration. Prevent conflicting updates and duplicate ownership.

03

Commercial settings

Align countries, shipping and returns with the actual store. Review promotions where eligible and within scope.

04

Ongoing health

Track warnings, affected products, update failures and review outcomes. Maintain a clear change log and next action.

PRODUCT FEED OPTIMISATION

Fix the information
behind the impression.

I work through the priority range rather than make blind edits across the whole catalogue. A title needs to identify the item, not read like a list of keywords. A variant needs its own correct image, price and availability.

Google product categories, your product types and the website category structure have different jobs. I align them where useful without assuming one replaces the others.

THE ITEM-TO-CHECKOUT CHECK

  1. 01

    Identity

Stable IDs, genuine GTINs where applicable, brand and variant grouping.

  2. 02

    Relevance

Useful titles, accurate descriptions, categories and product attributes.

  3. 03

    Offer

Matching price, currency, availability, delivery and returns.

  4. 04

    Destination

Correct item selected, working images and a usable purchase path.

PRODUCTS NOT SHOWING?

Start with the actual failure.
Then choose the fix.

Disapproved items

Trace the diagnostic to the field, product or landing page that needs correction.

Price or stock mismatch

Check which system owns the value, when it updates and which variant opens.

Approved, but little visibility

Review demand, product relevance, images, offer quality and available performance evidence.

Account-level restrictions

Review the business and policy issue before submitting a supported review request.

I do not bypass enforcement, invent identifiers or promise reinstatement. The useful work is a documented correction that addresses the reason for the issue.

AI-ASSISTED SHOPPING

Be useful when the question
gets more specific.

A buyer may ask for a compact lamp with adjustable light, delivery to their country and a suitable warranty. Good product data gives that comparison something reliable to work with.

Describe the right product

Explain specifications, dimensions, compatibility, intended use and limitations.

Support the choice

Use genuine product evidence and accurate price, availability and delivery context.

Keep sources aligned

Review the feed, landing page and relevant structured data together.

I can use AI to help classify product data, flag inconsistent fields and prepare drafts for review. Product specialists verify the facts. Visibility in Gemini or another AI experience remains the platform's decision, not a guaranteed feed outcome.

PRODUCT IMAGES + VIDEO

Make the product clear.
Keep the creative honest.

I plan media around what a customer needs to inspect. Feed images, website galleries and advertising video have different requirements; one export is not right for every use.

Images that explain

Choose accurate lead images and useful angles. Review resolution, responsive delivery, compression and alt text. Keep promotional overlays or watermarks out of primary feed images where prohibited.

Video with a purpose

Use short, approved demonstrations to explain scale or use. Plan captions, a clear poster and sensible loading. Video production and channel support are agreed rather than assumed from a feed connection.

AI-assisted creative

Develop suitable backgrounds, storyboards or variations from verified product references. Check proportions, colour, accessories and claims. Never present a generated demonstration as a real product test.

Approved assets, correct provenance. I check the current channel requirements for AI-created product content, including embedded image metadata and structured title or description fields. Required metadata must survive compression and export. Merchant Center guidance ↗

PRODUCT PAGES + CATEGORY SEO

The click is only useful
if the destination works.

I review the search title, description, heading, social metadata and product markup against the visible offer. The correct variant, images, price, stock and delivery information should be easy to find.

Collections and categories support browsing and broader search demand. I can improve their purpose, internal links and taxonomy within the agreed scope, while keeping individual product URLs as the feed destinations.

Connect the work with Ecommerce SEO →

Four layers that should agree

  • Product facts and selected variant.
  • Feed attributes and target market.
  • Visible page content and structured data.
  • Checkout price, availability and delivery.

PHYSICAL-STORE INVENTORY

Help a nearby shopper
find what is actually in stock.

For eligible retailers, free local listings and local inventory ads connect product availability with the shop that can fulfil the purchase. I review Business Profile connections, store codes, inventory updates and the supported customer journey.

An online catalogue alone does not prove availability at every branch. I scope the process by location and inventory source, including supported Google-hosted availability options where appropriate.

Connect Google Business Profile →

The right store

Verified location and matching store identity.

The right stock

Item, price and availability for that branch.

The right next step

A supported visit, collection or purchase route.

MEASUREMENT THAT REACHES THE SALE

Approved is a status.
Commercial progress needs more evidence.

01

Listing health

Eligible items, disapprovals, stale data and resolved issues.

02

Discovery

Impressions and clicks by product, market and available surface.

03

Purchase

Useful visits, checkout behaviour, orders and conversion value.

04

Economics

Paid spend, margin context, stock and returns where data is available.

I reconcile Merchant Center, Google Ads and analytics where possible, explain attribution gaps and avoid adding overlapping conversion reports together. Free traffic still needs a competitive offer and a working store to become a sale.

Review Analytics & Conversion Measurement →

RETAILERS + BRANDS + INTERNATIONAL STORES

Choose markets you can serve.
Then build the right product presence.

Starting a catalogue

Set up the priority range, free-listing foundations and a maintainable update process.

Selling across borders

Align country eligibility, language, currency, delivery and localised product information.

Retailing across locations

Connect the online offer with reliable branch-level stock and customer expectations.

For European Shopping ads, I also check the applicable Comparison Shopping Service setup. Product restrictions, consumer information and consent requirements need review for each market, with your authorised advisers approving legal wording.

DAAOMI FOR MERCHANT CENTER

Six stages.
One managed improvement cycle.

DAAOMI stands for Discover, Analyze, Audit, Optimize, Monitor and Improve. The name takes the first letter of each stage. I use it to connect the product opportunity with delivery and follow-up.

  1. D

    Discover

    Agree the opportunity

Understand the range, markets, stock and business priorities.

  2. A

    Analyze

    Understand the buyer

Compare product demand, competing offers and purchase context.

  3. A

    Audit

    Find the constraint

Inspect account settings, feeds, pages, media and measurement.

  4. O

    Optimize

    Deliver the corrections

Improve the scoped data and destinations, with approvals recorded.

  5. M

    Monitor

    Check the response

Track listing health, discovery, purchases and paid performance.

  6. I

    Improve

    Refine the next cycle

Use the evidence and inventory position to decide what follows.

GOOGLE SHOPPING CLIENT QUESTIONS

Before we connect the feed,
change the listings or commit a budget.

Can my business list products on Google Shopping for free?

Eligible retailers can show qualifying products through free listings without paying Google for those placements or clicks. I check the products, website, target countries and account setup before recommending a scope. It is an opportunity for product sellers, not a universal listing programme for every service or restricted product. My setup and management fees are separate from the free placement.

Do I need Google Ads to use free product listings?

No. Free listings do not require an advertising campaign. Merchant Center manages the product information and listing eligibility; Google Ads manages paid campaigns. We can start with free listings, then assess whether paid acquisition makes commercial sense for your range.

Can you improve our organic Google Shopping rankings?

I improve the information and purchase experience behind the listing: relevant product detail, accurate attributes, good images and an offer that agrees with the destination. I also investigate missing visibility. There is no fixed position I can reserve or guarantee. Approval makes a product eligible; it does not guarantee impressions, traffic or sales.

What is included in Merchant Center management?

I can manage the agreed account settings, product sources, shipping and returns configuration, feed mapping, diagnostics and ongoing data-quality checks. The proposal specifies the catalogue, countries, update process and who handles website or integration changes. You retain account ownership and approve access.

Can you fix disapproved products or a suspended account?

I review the exact warning, affected items and relevant website evidence before proposing corrections. Item disapprovals and account suspensions need different investigations. I can coordinate fixes and a properly supported review request, but Google decides the outcome. I will not suggest another account to evade enforcement.

Which ecommerce platforms can you connect?

I review the existing connector or export before recommending a new one. I work with product data from platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento. Custom feeds and integrations are scoped against the actual data source and development support available.

Do all products need a GTIN?

The required identifiers depend on the product. I use genuine manufacturer identifiers where they exist and review the applicable requirements for products without them. I do not invent GTINs or mark products as having no identifiers simply to clear an error. Brand, variant and item identity must remain consistent across the data source and store.

Can you manage international product listings?

Yes, for the agreed supported markets. I check language, currency, shipping, returns, landing pages and product eligibility by country. A store that ships internationally is not automatically ready to list everywhere. This work can connect with international SEO and localised product content.

Which paid campaigns can you help with?

The brief can include Standard Shopping, retail Performance Max, Demand Gen with a product feed, and eligible local inventory formats. Related Search, Display remarketing, YouTube or app activity is considered when it serves the purchase journey; these are not all Shopping campaign types. Campaign management, creative production and advertising spend are agreed separately through Google Ads services.

Can Merchant Center help products appear in Gemini or AI shopping results?

Google lists Gemini among possible destinations for eligible free product listings. I focus on clear identity, detailed product facts, consistent offers and useful landing pages so the product can be understood and compared. No feed or markup guarantees an AI recommendation. An AI visibility audit can help identify information gaps and relevant buyer questions.

Can you use AI for product images, videos and descriptions?

Yes, where it improves the work and the output can be checked against approved product references. I agree rights, review responsibilities and quantities first. Generated scenes must not invent features, included accessories, test results or customer endorsements. Merchant Center has specific provenance and structured-data requirements for AI-created content; I check those before publishing through the chosen data source.

Can a physical shop use free listings without a full online store?

There are local inventory options for eligible physical retailers, including supported experiences where in-store availability is hosted on Google. I check the country, Business Profile, inventory system and programme requirements before recommending a route. Free local listings and local inventory ads both need reliable store-level information.

Will you improve product pages and category pages as well?

I can include the selected landing pages and template issues in the scope. Product metadata, visible details and markup should agree with the feed. Categories and collections help people browse and support wider ecommerce SEO, but they are not substitutes for the individual product destinations submitted to free listings.

What about returns, regulated products, consent and customer data?

I flag missing or conflicting business, shipping and returns information and check the applicable channel policies. Your authorised advisers approve legal wording and regulated claims in the markets you serve. Tracking and audience use must follow an agreed consent and data-handling process. Merchant Center management is not legal certification.

How do you measure progress and agree the price?

I separate listing health, visibility, visits and purchases, and report free and paid activity distinctly where the data allows. For paid work I assess conversion value alongside spend and commercial context, not ROAS in isolation. Fees depend on catalogue size, countries, feed condition and implementation needs. We agree the deliverables and review cadence before starting; I do not promise a fixed sales increase.
